A Mercedes Charging Network

Mercedes previously announced that they will launch their own EV charging network. Installing charging points for EV drivers across the globe, ranging from Europe, North America, and China. Mercedes has already launched 2,500 chargers across the USA in 2023 with the total process being completed by 2027. The European and Chinese market plans for these charging points will undergo once the US market is completed.

The number of chargers in each charging hub will depend on the location and size of each hub. Each charging hub will range between 4 and 30 chargers at a 350kW rate of charging. Mercedes has stated that there will be an emphasis on providing customers a “premium, sustainable and reliable charging experience”.

Open to All EVs

The Chief Technology Officer of Mercedes-Benz Markus Schäfer clarified the charging network will provide benefits to Mercedes EV drivers, explaining those who are “non-Mercedes owners will have availability of the chargers, but we will work on separate pricing”. With this stated, it looks like Mercedes drivers with an EV will gain cheaper prices when re-charging their vehicle compared to non-Mercedes drivers. With customers receiving a more “premium, sustainable and reliable charging experience”, the charging hub “will be powered by green energy”. This energy will be provided with the partnership of E.ON.

This charging network created by Mercedes is an innovative move which challenges Tesla’s dominance in the EV market and charging spaces. Mercedes plans on creating 10,000 charging hubs worldwide. However, with Mercedes proceeding with this plan, other automotive competitors will be keen to follow suit.
